SUMMARY
Date: 1-4 November 2014 (early arrival welcome on Friday October the 31st)
Location: In the hills above Johanna Beach via Lavers Hill and Yuulong (map provided after booking)
Cost: $35 - concession and low income; $65 - waged; $85 - waged earning 70K+; $105+ - wages earning 100K+
Program: Starts Saturday 2pm. finishes Tuesday 1pm. Mix of openspace and preprogrammed workshops and events.
Facilities: Compositing toilets, camp kitchen including burners, gas and washing facilities..
Accommodation: Camping on site (BYO tent etc) or book in at local BnBs
Other: Due to the remoteness of the location please insure you have ambulance cover prior to attending.
WHAT
A participant run gathering focusing on preparing for future scenarios we may face in the next 1 to 50 years. In particular we focus on two major themes, a social decline theme such as might be caused by peak oil, slow climate change, or economic collapse (Blue) and a severe collapse theme and scenarios such as severe climate change or global nuclear war (Red).
The gathering will host a range of workshops, discussions and events focused on the background, skills, technology, systems and cultural issues surrounding preparation for these scenarios.
The event will be largely self organised with participants expected to contribute both financially and by volunteering their time either teaching or undertaking supporting roles.
LOCATION
The Vic 2014 Red and Blue event is being held at Grey Cliff Permaculture's Otways property located in the hills above Johanna Beach in the Western Otways. The property has been developed as a permaculture property since 2009 and includes a 1 ha food forest, orchard, garden, agroforestry and fire suppression planting. Most of the property has been allowed regenerate.
FACILITIES
Camping - camping is available around the house and at a number of locations on site. .
Water - fresh tank water
Camp Kitchen - a camp kitchen will be set up for individual and communal cooking.
Teaching spaces - a range of indoor and outdoor teaching spaces are available.
Kids play areas - sand pit near house, sand pit and small slide in garden, cuby and swing in forest, in door room for bad weather.
First Aid - basic first aid for minor ailments
Emergency shelter - if extreme weather occurs the shed will be made available for sleeping in and storing personal gear.
PROGRAM
Events and workshops will be mix of open space and pre-program events. Please go to our program page for more information or if you want to pre register an open space workshop.

10pm - 3pm Lavershill "Vintage, Handmade and Hand grown market" (event organised by the Lavershill community and a happy coincidence it is on the same weekend.)
10.30am-12 noon Site Tour
7pm – Discussion: Which Future Green vs Blue vs Red
Monday
Morning: Trigger Points, Archery, Raiders, Nuclear War
Afternoon: Assertiveness and recognising manipulation, Firearms, Coastal Walk
Evening: Cooperatives, Basics of Food

Where does the money go?
Red and Blue events are a not for profit events. All money goes to the following uses:
- camp consumables such as compositing poo buckets, toilet paper, soap, cooking gas.
- equipment and training aids (kept for use in future RnB events)
- one site projects
- small seed budget for the next years event
Usually we would hope to return about 50% of the income to the host property in terms of practical projects over the RnB weekend. However as the host property is on our Grey Cliffs site all money raised will go to either covering consumables, building a tool/equipment library for future events as well as a small amount set aside for next years event.
GETTING THERE
Options include driving, train to Colac and then cycling via the Beech Forest Rail trail.
If driving allow 3.5 hours travel time from Melbourne..
The location is not serviced by public transport.If interested in coming by train please email Adrian (see Contact below) to discuss a possible pick up. from Colac.

- Other attractions you might consider visiting Furgeson local store, The Ridge Organic Cafe in Beech Forest and other waterfall and parks in the area.
*Johanna beach is one of the wildest beaches on the Victorian coast. It is unpatrolled and is where they hold Bell's Beach Surf Carnival when Bells is flat. It is extremely dangerous beach and only experienced strong swimmers should seek to swim beyond waist high standing depth.

EMERGENCY PLANS AND ISSUES
Fire - we have already see fires burning in southern Australia this spring. If a fire threatens people will need to evacuate the site potentially to nearby beaches depending on time available. The fire conditions will be monitored over the event.
Extreme weather – the site's position on the south west coast means strong winds and storms can and do regularly hit the site. If strong winds or storms arrive during the event camping areas near trees will be closed and people can sleep in the shed.
Injury – the site is in a remote location. The is a Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) located in Lavershill, however any serious injury will need to be transferred to 1 hour to Colac or Apollo Bay or 3.5 hours to Melbourne. Please ensure you are covered by Victorian Ambulance insurance.
Snakes – snakes are present on site including browns and tigers. Be careful when moving around the property.
